Three Kings Chapel

At a distance of 27 km from Panjim Kadamba Bus Stand, 15 km from Vasco Da Gama Railway Station and 20 km from Margao Railway Station, Three Kings Church is located at Velsao in South Goa. Three Kings Church is a small church situated at Cuelim hill. It is closer to Verna railway station. It is a very famous tourist spot. According to the history this church is a haunted church. Long ago three Portuguese kings lived there. They often used to fight to gain power in the land but they were tied by the Portuguese diplomacy between rulers policy. Holger Alvunger, one king invited other two kings for a supper in the church. King Holger poisoned other two kings. The supporters of the dead kings became furious and gathered there to kill the wicked man. Holger committed suicide by taking poison. People buried all three bodies in the church. This Church is mostly closed in the evenings as there is a tale the locals tell and basically centers on the premise that no one who has ever gone up to the church for a visit on the night of the Three Kings Feast is ever seen again. This location is visited by locals and the odd tourist only. However this is one of the most scenic spots in Goa. It is worth climbing the hill and one can get a breathtaking view of surrounding lush green fields and the Arabian Sea. Visit this magnificent place preferably in the evening so that you can see the awesome view of sunset from the top of the hill. The Church is famous for the feast of 3 kings which is celebrated every year on 6th January at Cansaulim. At the feast three local guys dress up as the three kings and move in the village on horseback and go to the church on the hilltop. A fair is also held at the church grounds. Other than the feast the Velsao Chapel is a great place to visit at least once.
